CURRICULUM
Academics
Our curriculum is designed to challenge students while also accommodating diverse learning styles and interests. Following both the Cambridge Programme and the Zambian curriculum, English, Maths and Science are complimented with ICT, Social Sciences, Languages (such as Chitonga and French) and Music and the Arts. Our rigorous academic standards ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in higher education, career, and beyond.
TEACHING THE PROFESSIONALS OF TOMORROW
Cambridge Primary is an education programme for learners aged 5 to 11 years, which develops learners’ skills and understanding through the primary years in English, mathematics and science. Cambridge Primary is a great place to start the learning journey, as it enables learners to build their knowledge and skills progressively through each year of the programme. It is an excellent preparation for progression to other educational systems. With the Cambridge programme, your child is joining a community of learners from more than 1000 schools in over 160 countries.
THE CAMBRIDGE APPROACH
ABOUT OUR CURRICULUM
At Acacia School, we pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our holistic approach to education focuses on fostering a love for learning, building essential skills, and promoting personal growth in each child. From preschool to primary school, we are committed to preparing students for success in their academic journey and beyond.
Our preschool curriculum is designed to introduce young learners to foundational skills in a play-based and interactive environment. We believe that children learn best through exploration and hands-on experiences. Our curriculum includes:
- Early Literacy and Numeracy: Through stories, songs, and games, children develop pre-reading and early math skills.
- Social and Emotional Development: We prioritize the development of social skills, empathy, and self-regulation through group activities and discussions.
- Creative Arts: Children are encouraged to express themselves creatively through art, music, and dramatic play.
- Physical Development: Gross and fine motor skills are cultivated through activities such as outdoor play, dance, and sensory exploration.
- Science and Nature: Preschoolers engage in simple science experiments and nature exploration to foster curiosity and a love for the natural world.
As children transition to reception, our curriculum builds upon the foundational skills developed in preschool while preparing them for more structured learning experiences. Key components of our reception curriculum include:
- Literacy and Language Development: Phonics instruction, guided reading, and language-rich activities help students develop reading and writing skills.
- Numeracy: Students explore mathematical concepts through hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving tasks.
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development: Building on preschool experiences, reception students continue to develop social skills, resilience, and self-confidence.
- Exploratory Learning: Inquiry-based learning experiences encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and independent exploration.
- Art and Design: Students have opportunities to engage in creative expression through art projects, design challenges, and imaginative play.
In the primary school years (Gr 1 -7), our curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded education that prepares students for academic success and lifelong learning. Key features of our primary school curriculum include:
- Core Subjects: Rigorous instruction in English, mathematics, science, and humanities forms the foundation of our academic programme.
- Specialist Subjects: Students receive instruction in specialist subjects such as art, music, physical education, and languages to nurture their talents and interests.
- Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Inquiry-based learning approaches and project-based activities develop students’ critical thinking skills and ability to solve complex problems.
- Digital Literacy: Integration of technology into the curriculum equips students with essential digital literacy skills for the 21st century.
- Character Education: Our values-based education promotes character traits such as respect, responsibility, integrity, and empathy, preparing students to become responsible global citizens.
